GETTING STARTED Often the biggest hurdle is just getting started. The sims we support work online and are capable of providing stability with the Large Fields we are blessed with here at the ASRG. We know because we use them every day! If they didn't work we wouldn't support or recommend them. Usually it's just a matter of going through the steps here and in the Resources section to get yourself up and running. Further help is always at hand on our club forums. ESSENTIALS - SUITABLE HARDWARE It's essential with racing sims that your computer system is capable of running the sim at a minimal acceptable frame rate. The minimal frame rate you can get away with will vary from sim to sim. Unlike some games, where things happen at walking or running speeds, things in racing sims happen at up to 250 mph. That's about 11 meters ( 12 yards ) every 1/10th of a second. And unlike flying sims, where you may be going faster but where you usually have a 100 meters or more space between you and others, in racings sims you're often just centimetres apart. So that's the ask. To run at 11 meters per 1/10th of a second closer than a whisper without crashing or causing crashes. Trying to participate in serious racing sims with inadequate frame rates usually leads to a lot of frustration for you and the people you're trying to race with. ESSENTIALS - QUALITY INTERNET CONNECTION You really do need a stable internet connection for online sim racing. Arguably more so than for any other type of online game. And once you've got your high quality connection then you may still need tweak it to squeeze the best possible experience out of it. Most of our Members are either on Cable and ADSL connections however some are still racing some of our older supported titles comfortably on reliable Dial-Up connections.. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - CONTROLS A good wheel and pedals setup can enhance your entire sim racing experience a great deal. Most drivers find that joystick control is far less than satisfactory - while keyboard control is a complete waste of time for everyone concerned, regardless of whether it's supported by the sim or not. We strongly recommend you have a read through our Technical Support section of the ASRG Forums for help and further information regarding getting your Online racing configurations right. |
